Alexander Sukholit (born in 1960, Chornotychi village, Chernihiv Region). In 1979 he graduated from the Uzhhorod School of Decorative and Applied Arts. In 1986 – the sculpture department of the Kyiv State Art Institute, the workshop of Makar Vronsky. Sculptor, graphic designer and painter. Lives and works in Kyiv.
Alexander Sukholit throughout his creative journey appeals to world heritage. He strives to go through all art schools independently, to understand, analyze and accept their heritage. In the art created by the artist, as in a large mirror, one can see the reflection of the main stages of the development of world artistic thought: from its germs in the art of the ancient world to the new modernist concepts of the twentieth century.
Alexander Sukholit belongs to those artists who at the end of the 1990s began to look at sculpture in a radically new way. He received a classical art education in the field of sculpture after graduating from the school of decorative and applied arts in Uzhhorod. But his development and formation as a unique artist falls during a stormy time when the main positions in Kyiv passed to a new generation of artists. Therefore, when part of the sculptors continued to move along the vector set in the art institute based on classical sculpture and classical subjects, Alexander Sukholit, together with like-minded people, decided to understand the main categories of the philosophy of art and get to the essence of the concept of sculptural plasticity.
Sukholit is a sculptor for whom there are no limits to the knowledge of what art is. He started looking for an answer to this question in the early 1990s and continues to this day. Each project of the artist, each of his works in one way or another captures these searches. Be it the figure of an elegant caryatid, a kouros, or an abstract line on paper — the meaning of each of the author’s creations lies in one goal — “the search for plastic spirituality.”
