Cardiomachia — a term coined by the artist, literally “the battle of the heart.” In this project, Zorkin reflects on love and death in the time of war. Ancient motifs echo the shattered landscapes of Ukrainian cities, while personal experience becomes the ground for a new myth.
At the crossroads of myth and history lies a cycle of graphic works by Ivan-Valentyn Zadorozhnyi dedicated to The Tale of Igor’s Campaign — a masterpiece of Kyivan Rus literature. These works reveal to the viewer a little-known page of Zadorozhnyi’s oeuvre.
The central theme of this exhibition is the notion of death, which she reveals not so much through the end of earthly life, physical or emotional loss, but rather as a way of shaping history. “Perhaps the entrance to paradise is in fact the exit from hell?” she asks.
