Description
The novel Exilia by the Ukrainian writer Symor Glasenko organically combines the genres of folklore, the Western, and magical realism.
Despite its vivid genre imagery, the text is at the same time a deeply personal work about moral responsibility, imbued with subtle irony, philosophical skepticism, and theatrical absurdity.
Complex contemporary realities are masterfully reflected in the novel through the metaphorical journey of the protagonist across wartime Ukraine, the ultimate goal of which is the search for an ideal country and the determination of one’s own place within it.
