The Stedley Art Foundation is pleased to invite you to the exhibition “Dzenia”, which will be held in the Foundation’s White Space. Halyna Zhehulska (born 1957), or as her friends and acquaintances called her — Dzenia, is a Ukrainian artist who mainly worked in the field of abstract graphics and was a significant part of the underground art community of Lviv in the 1970s and 1980s. The core of her creative work consists of compositions of various scales with mazes of geometric shapes, fractals, and contrasting colors.
During her formative years in the 1970s to early 1980s, Halyna Zhehulska was part of a circle of artists that gathered around the graphic artist Oleksandr Aksinin (1949–1985), among whose etchings there are several dedicated to Dzenia. Zhehulska contributed to a chapter of Ukrainian art, approaching the optical experiments of such world-renowned artists as Victor Vasarely, Josef Albers, and Bridget Riley.
