Sergiy Paradzhanov (1924–1990). Ukrainian and Armenian film director and screenwriter, one of the founders of Ukrainian poetic cinema, and an artist. Born in Tbilisi. From 1941 to 1943, he worked as a technologist-artist at the Tbilisi factory “Soviet Toy.” From 1942 to 1945, he studied at the vocal department of the Tbilisi Conservatory. After graduating from the conservatory, he entered the directing faculty of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography. A significant part of S. Parajanov’s creative biography is associated with Ukraine. International recognition came to the master after the release of the film “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors” (1964).
