The White Space of the STEDLEY ART FOUNDATION hosted the presentation of the final part of the Foundation and the UBIK art group’s joint project – an exhibition “The Laws of Nature” and a documentary “The Expedition.”
The exhibition and the film became a logical outcome of the eco-plain-air held in September 2011 in Koktebel (Crimea). During 10 days the artists conducted an active dialogue with invited environmentalists and jointly reflected about the environment, its understanding by modern man and possible solutions to these issues.
The exhibition includes photographic and video documentation of the plain-air, as well as objects made in Koktebel from locally found natural materials. “The Laws of Nature” is a kind of fictional exposition of a nonexistent museum with relic finds which confirm the natural origin of man-made objects.
A separate part of the presentation was a screening of the documentary “The Expedition.” Filmed during the plain air and dubbed with excerpts from famous novels of the Strugatskies brothers and Kurt Vonnegut, the film shows the gradual “live” process of the project development and reveals its main ideas by means of metaphors.
